After extending its services to Toronto and Montreal earlier this year, the Chicago-based company is now expanding further to Canadian markets in Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton.
Roadrunner, a leading less-than-truckload (LTL) transportation provider based in Chicago, announced an expansion of its U.S.-Canada cross-border LTL services into Western Canada to cover Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton.
This expansion is part of Roadrunner’s broader strategy to improve its cross-border LTL services across North America and follows the company’s earlier expansion into Toronto and Montreal.
Roadrunner specializes in long-haul, metro-to-metro LTL services and has more direct routes between major metropolitan markets than any other national carrier.
With operations driven by artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), the company guarantees freight custodial controls and provides real-time tracking and visibility.
In January, Roadrunner introduced its cross-border LTL services into Toronto and Montreal via Detroit. Now, the new service to Western Canada will be operated from Seattle, which will serve as the consolidation point for shipments to Western Canada from all U.S. origin locations.
The Seattle terminal is one of the company’s strongest-performing terminals. It recently won the company’s Operations Performance League (OPL) contest after excelling in more than 20 Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including service quality, operational efficiency, and data accuracy.
Ryan Schelb, Vice President of Network Strategy and Expansion at Roadrunner, said, “The service to Western Canada will benefit immensely from having Seattle as our launching point, given how unique our metro-to-metro network is in the LTL world.”
The company’s decision to expand into Western Canada is in response to customer demand for broader coverage in the country.
Tomasz Jamroz, Roadrunner’s Chief Operating Officer, said, “We are launching new service to Western Canada on the heels of ultra-successful openings of Toronto and Montreal earlier this year. Our customers have repeatedly asked us to complement our Eastern and Central Canada offering to include the West.”
“We are playing into our strengths in these markets, and we are able to provide the service, quality, and on-time LTL experience our customers now expect from Roadrunner,” Jamroz continued.
Roadrunner has developed a “Smart Network” that is designed to offer more direct long-haul metro-to-metro shipping than any other nationwide LTL carrier.
“Our smart network keeps expanding with service to Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver,” Schelb explained.
“We use data and analytics to analyze which markets we are opening next to provide the best long-haul LTL service”, he continued.
Roadrunner has recently introduced a Guaranteed Service in select lanes, offering shippers on-time delivery or a full refund of charges.
Additionally, the company launched a new service center in Atlanta and now offers one-day service between Southern California and Chicago.
These moves have placed Roadrunner in the Journal of Commerce’s (JOC) Top 20 LTL Carriers List, with the fourth-largest revenue growth among LTL carriers year-over-year.
The company was also recognized as the Most Improved LTL Carrier in 2022 by Mastio and acknowledged by Newsweek as one of America's Most Trustworthy Companies in 2022.
