EU Tariffs Update: Trump Extends Deadline to July 9 as Trade Talks Continue
1:22

This extension offers U.S. importers the opportunity to assess how the proposed 50% EU tariffs may impact their businesses and allows them to make necessary adjustments before any new duties take effect.

President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that the deadline for imposing a 50% tariff on EU imports will be extended from June 1 to July 9.

This update follows his initial announcement on May 23, in which he recommended the tariff in response to stalled trade negotiations with the European Union.

The decision to extend the deadline follows a call with Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, who requested additional time to continue trade negotiations and “reach a good deal.”

Right now, the existing 10% baseline tariff on EU imports remains in effect, along with previously imposed duties of 25% on steel, aluminum, and automobiles produced in the European Union.

If you import goods from the EU, we encourage you to use this window to review your supply chains and prepare for potential cost increases if the higher tariff is implemented in July.
