Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will roll out a DIS update on June 11, 2024, to improve the processing and review of trade documents. Learn more about this update here.On June 11, 2024, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will roll out a DIS update to enhance its functionality and significantly improve how trade documents are processed and reviewed.
The fundamental changes in the Document Image System update include:
Post-update, CBP will improve its communication with filers by notifying them once the review of documents submitted via email is complete. Previously, CBP could not consistently inform filers about the review status of trade documents submitted in this manner.
CBP will now be able to send responses to filers through DIS for documents submitted via ABI, irrespective of the review status. Before this update, CBP could only communicate back to filers for rejected transactions after review, leaving those accepted without a response.
CBP will introduce three distinct review statuses for all documents: “accepted,” “rejected,” and “under review.” This enhancement ensures filers receive feedback on their submissions regardless of the submission method used.
Furthermore, these changes mean that CBP can now issue responses for all DIS submissions, accompanied by comments detailing the review status when necessary. However, it is important to note that while the capability to send review statuses for all documents will exist, CBP may not issue a status for every document reviewed.
